Mark Davis clinches 2012 Championship League Snooker Group 4 – Snooker news
England’s Mark Davis ousted points-table leader, compatriot Mark Selby by the score line of 3-1 in the final encounter of the fourth event at 2012 Championship League Snooker event. The tournament was staged at the Crondon Park Golf Club. World Number one,
Selby, despite finishing on top of Group 4 was not able to unsettle his opponent.
Davis showed some superb snooker genius to outplay his opponent and surge into the Winners Group of the series. On the other hand, Selby had several chances during the last three Championship League Snooker events to make an impact and win any event but
unfortunately, he was not successful in the play-offs.
Before reaching the final of the tournament, Davis played against former World Snooker Champion and veteran, Peter Ebdon in the semi-final clash and nudged him 3-0 down to book his final match berth. Selby, on the other hand, was drawn against Northern Ireland’s
Mark Allen in his semi-final contest. The Jester from Leicester had a tussling encounter against the Pistol but defeated him by 3-2.
The ultimate battle seemed an easy play for the 39-year-old Davis as he cruised into a 2-0 early lead after clinching back-to-back frame wins by the score line of 59-5 and 67-15, pocketing two fine knocks of 59 and 40. Selby moved within a one frame lead
at 2-1 after he sprang back into the game with a marvellous 138-point break to claim the third frame by 0-138.
After that, the World Number 17 hit a cracking clearance of 72 points to grab the fourth and final frame in one visit at 72-0 and triumphed over the World Number one with a 3-1 score line. With this win, Davis will now join the 2011 UK Championship winner,
England’s Judd Trump and the reigning World Snooker Champion, Scotland’s John Higgins in the Winners Group of Championship League Snooker.
Mark Davis will now move to Blackpool to participate in the 2012 Snooker Shootout event at the Tower Circus Arena. He will face compatriot Mark Joyce in his first-round match of the tournament.
