Mark Davis disheartened with semi-final loss against Barry Hawkins: 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
Winner of the 2012 Six-Red World Championship, Mark Davis performed brilliantly in the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament and was able to make his way into the semi-final encounter of the event where he faced the winner of the 2012 Snooker
Shootout event, England’s Barry Hawkins.
Despite his hard struggle against Hawkins, Davis was unable to win the clash and tumbled down by the score line of 6-4.
The clash was one of the most interesting games because both potters were in good shape and gave their best to grab an early lead which made the game more thrilling. Hawkins grabbed the early lead in the first session of the game by the score line of 3-1.
The two-frame lead was real pressure situation for Davis because Hawkins was in psychological advantage over him because of his lead.
However, Davis bounced back into the game in the second session and claimed three frames to move 4-4 but after that he was unable to win any more frames. On the other hand, Hawkins swept the table on the next couple of sets and hit the victory of penultimate
event. Davis crashed out of the event which was quite disappointing for him because he was aiming for the ultimate glory.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Davis said, “I'm gutted at the moment, I really fancied winning the tournament the way I was playing and the way it was going and I'm obviously very disappointed. I didn't play badly, I missed a couple of balls
that I should have got. My safety let me down, my safety just wasn't good enough, all the way through the game.”
He added, “He played well, his breaks were quite tough a lot of them. The last one was one of the only ones where the balls were open and even then he was doing it to win the match.”
Davis will now be moving ahead to other major ranking events. The Englishman has been performing brilliantly from the beginning of this season and is hoping to grab a major title.
