Mark Davis ends Ding Junhui’s run in first round of 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament
Hundreds of Chinese snooker fans gathered at the Wuxi Sports Center to see their favourite potter, the local hero Ding Junhui in action but all their joys ended when they saw him tumbling down against England’s Mark Davis by the score line of 5-2 in the
opening round of the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament. The Chinese potter had no clue how to cope with the Englishman’s run as Davis dominated the table brilliantly.
Defeat of the Chinese Sensation was another major upset after Neil Robertson who lost to Scotland’s Jamie Burnett by the score line of 5-1. Davis was in control from the start of the game and put pressure in the experienced Junhui with his classy game play.
Junhui tried his best but failed to match Davis’ skills and slipped three frames down in the end.
While speaking to World Snooker after his victory, Davis said, “I believed I could win the match, of course I did. I've played Ding quite a few times and he's got the edge on me, that's for sure.”
The English cueman added, “It wasn't a particularly good game, Ding didn't play anywhere near as well as he can and fortunately for me that was the case and I managed to win a couple of frames that could've gone either way and then got over the line.”
The first session of the game was equally shared between the two potters by the score line of 2-2. Davis produced impressive snooker display and grabbed quick lead of 1-0 winning the opening frame. Junhui bounced back into the game with a classy clearance
of 84 points to pull level at 1-1.
Davis had a tremendous start in the third frame with a superb break of 61 but a couple of fouls and Junhui’s brilliant potting nudged him down and the Chinese snatched the lead by the score line of 2-1. Davis did not let it go easily and claimed fourth frame
to balance the power by 2-2.
The second session was all-Davis show as the Englishman cruised into three-frame win to claim the victory by 5-2. It will be exciting to see how far Davis manages to progress in the tournament as he is in good form and looking to put in a tremendous performance
during the event.
