Mark Davis grabs easy victory over Tom Ford in Round 1: 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals
England’s Mark Davis was outstanding at the baize against compatriot Tom Ford in the first round of 2011-12 Players Tour championship (PTC) Grand Finals at the Bailey Allen Hall arena in Galway, Ireland. The Englishman showed his class in his opening clash
and was able to beat Ford by an easy score line of 4-1 to make his way into the Last-16 round.
The match up seemed a piece of cake for the World Number 18 as he cruised into early lead in the match with some outstanding snooker shots. Ford was not able to add more than one frame on his side of the score board and tumbled down easily. Davis fired some
scintillating clearances of 64, 84, 51 and 72 to breeze past Ford and hit the winning score line of 4-1.
Davis in currently World Number 18 and he is looking forward to make it into the Top 16 potters. However, he admitted that the Top 16 goal was not in his mind when he started playing against Ford. However, the 39-year-old is ambitious to book his place in
the Top 16 in the upcoming events so that he could qualify to the initial stages of any tournament directly.
Speaking to World Snooker after his match, Davis said, “I was really pleased by the way I played today, I scored well and didn't miss much. I've been working with Terry Griffiths and he has got me looking at things differently. If you are potting balls,
it doesn't matter who is sitting in the other chair.”
He further added, “I like this venue and it's a knowledgeable crowd. I always enjoy playing in Ireland because the players are so friendly.”
Davis will next meet the Scottish professional snooker player, Stephen Maguire in the Last-16 round of the 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals. The match up will commence on Friday, March 16 in the morning session at the same venue.
The Englishman has played against Maguire in four matches before and he was victorious in three of them. Last time they met in the fourth round of PTC 11 in December, 2011 where Davis whitewashed Maguire by the score line of 4-0.
