Mark Davis happy for Barry Hawkins to be in final of 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
England’s Mark Davis continued his tremendous form in the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker event and beating major players of the professional circuit, he made his way into the semi-final encounter of the event.
He was up against the winner of the 2012 Snooker Shootout event, compatriot Barry Hawkins in the semi-final encounter of the tournament. The clash was expected to be a thrilling and it turned out to be exciting when Davis bounced back into the game from
3-1 down and pulled level at 4-4. At this point, the situation of the match was intense for both Hawkins and Davis.
Davis was aiming to hit the victory to enter the final encounter while Hawkins had the same ambition. The Hawk played brilliantly in the ninth frame to move one frame up at 5-4. Davis tried his best to cope with the situation and reduce the pressure exerted
by Hawkins’ tremendous game but he failed to save himself from a 6-4 defeat.
Regardless of the fact that he lost to his friend, but still he is very happy for Hawkins that he has made his way into his first major ranking final event.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Davis said, “Playing a friend in a semi-final, I tried to treat it like another game. I didn't win but obviously I'm over the moon that Barry is in the final, he's a great mate of mine and he's a great lad.
I'm a little bit gutted, but when I get back and think about the last four weeks I'm going to be over the moon.”
He added, “I'm disappointed with it because I fancied winning the tournament, you could say the draw opened up but I don't necessarily agree with that, everyone's there to be beaten if you're playing well enough.”
Start of the 2012-13 Snooker Season brought some fortunate events for the English potter and he was able to polish his snooker skills and claim the 2012 Six-Red World Championship. He also showed great progress in the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event but
was unable to win the title.
