Mark Davis sets up Jamie Burnett clash in second round of 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event
A couple of major upsets have occurred in the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament at the Wuxi Sports Center in Wuxi, China where the top guns and tournament favourites were toppled down by comparatively lower ranked potters. However, at the same time the
tournament has produced outstanding snooker matches at the Wuxi baize.
The likes of former World Snooker Championship winner, Australia’s Neil Robertson and the 2012 Welsh Open snooker event winner Ding Junhui faced early exits from the event after losing to Jamie Burnett and Mark Davis respectively in the opening round of
the event. Both cuemen were in a strong position to claim the Wuxi Classic title but they were unable to perform up to their standards and tumbled down in the end.
Burnett played impressively against Robertson and defeated him by an easy score line of 5-1. Davis, on the other hand, had a little bit of difficulty against Junhui in the first session but he played sensibly in the second session to finish on top of the
Chinese player by the score line of 5-2.
Now, both Davis and Burnett have made their way successfully into the second round of the event where they will face each other for the quarter-final berth. Davis is looking forward to face Burnett and believes that the game will be interesting to watch.
While speaking to World Snooker, Davis said, “I look forward to it. Obviously any time you're still in a tournament you look forward to any game. Jamie's a very good player, an underachiever probably, throughout his career he probably should've done more
because I rate him quite highly.”
He added, “Obviously he beat Neil Robertson 5-1, he must have played really well, so it shows he must be hitting the ball nicely.”
Both Davis and Burnett have faced each other a couple of times before. They were together in the quarter-final clash of the 2010 Shanghai Masters snooker tournament where Burnett was victorious by 5-4. Second time they met in the fourth qualifying round
of 2012 Welsh Open qualifying session and this time, Davis triumphed over Burnett by the score line of 4-2. It will be exciting to see Davis and Burnett battle it out for a chance to advance in the tournament.
