Mark Davis to face Barry Hawkins in semi-final of 2012 Australian Goldfields Open – Snooker Update
Second edition of 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament has been providing the snooker fans of Australia and the world with some classy snooker moments at the Bendigo Stadium arena in Victoria.
Recently the quarter-final clashes finished at the venue featuring four potters who have booked their seats in the penultimate stage of the event.
In one of the most interesting games of the quarter-final stage, winner of the 2012 Six-Red World Championship, Mark Davis was up against compatriot Martin Gould. The spectators present at the arena were expecting a tussling game but Davis’ tremendous game-play
finished the match in no time.
The clash was an easy win for Davis as he cruised into 5-2 triumph over Gould to make his way into the semis where he will be facing the winner of the 2012 Snooker Shootout, England’s Barry Hawkins. Davis has played against Hawkins before and knows his strengths
at the baize. However, despite all the pressure, Davis is looking for a positive run in the semi-final encounter.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Davis said, “Barry Hawkins is a really good mate of mine, we hang around on the circuit together so it'll be nice to play him, and obviously one of us will be in the final. He's a great player Barry, he gives
100 per cent all the time and he's very tough to beat.”
The Englishman further added, “So we'll look forward to it tomorrow and have a good game hopefully.”
The Davis-Hawkins clash is going to be a tough game as both potters are in tremendous form. Davis has been working very hard to claim the Aussie event title. On the other hand, Hawkins is also all set to face Davis with all his strengths and skills. Still,
it will be hard to push Davis down as he has a lot of confidence from his victory against Robertson.
It will be exciting to see Davis and Hawkins battle it out in the semi-final as both players are in tremendous form and will be looking to get to the final stage of the tournament.
