Mark Davis trashes Neil Robertson in Round 2 of 2012 Australian Goldfields Open – Snooker Update
One of the number one contenders to claim the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament, the former World Snooker Championship winner Australia’s Neil Robertson failed to move forward in the event and crashed out of the contest.
The Aussie potter was up against the winner of the 2012 Six-Red World Championship, Mark Davis and lost to him by the score line of 5-1 in the second round of the event.
The Bendigo Stadium arena in the city of Victoria was houseful with the snooker fans that came to watch their local hero in action. However, they must have been quite disheartened because of Robertson’s defeat. The Thunder from Down Under was not expecting
a defeat at this stage but he could not save his position in the event. Davis was impressive on the baize and managed to nudge his opponent down by the score line of 5-1 to book his place in the quarter-finals.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Davis said, “I started the game a bit slow. I didn't get my hand on the table for a frame and a half really. The turning point was Neil getting a kick on the black in the second frame which was unfortunate
for him and left me a good chance.”
He added, “That settled me down a bit and I played well after that. I scored really well, my safety was ok, and when I did play a bad safety I got away with it and didn't leave him anything which is a bit of the roll of the ball that you need.”
The match started a bit late because Robertson was playing the marathon match along with the former World Snooker Championship winner Peter Ebdon and the 2012 Welsh Open winner Ding Junhui. However, he began brilliantly with a superb knock of 88 points to
hit the lead in the match by the score line of 0-1.
After that, Davis did not let him come at the table and cause more trouble. He played sensibly in the later part of the game and claimed five consecutive frame wins firing classy breaks of 67, 65, 81 and 61 to ensure his triumph over Robertson.
