Mark Davis wants to prove his point after whitewashing Shailesh Jogia – Snooker news
The world number 18 Mark Davis says he wants to win the 2011 Players Tour Championship after losing to Rory McLeod by a frame score of 10-5 in the final qualifying round of the 2011 World Snooker Championship to make up the loss a bit.
The 38-year-old Davis has reached the last 16 of the Players Tour Championship after whitewashing his opponent Shailesh ‘Joe’ Jogia by a frame score of 4-0 in a best-of-seven match. Although he only managed in producing a maximum break of 50 during the match
but the tactical side of him came out far more superior to his opponent.
Davis shared his feelings afterwards about the opening frame, which he won on a re-spotted black ball. He said the results could have been different if had not pocketed the first frame.
He said everyone wants to reach the home of snooker, Sheffield, and it makes one a lot happier. He said the loss which he has had is hurting and is still fresh in his mind but by winning in Ireland, he might be able to recover a bit.
He mentioned that he is not unhappy because he lost but the fact that he could not make his opponent, McLeod, work hard. He also shared his feeling by saying that it was very disappointing if one does not concentrate in the world championship qualifiers,
something that never happened a lot previously.
He admitted the fact that this year his performance is not good as he has not been able to concentrate on more than two shots without losing it. However, on the same note he also said that maybe by this summer he is going to get things in a good shape to
last next season better.
Davis after reaching the last 16 will now face Stephen Lee on Friday in the next round of the competition where the eventual winner is going to collect the prize money of 60,000 pounds.
However, Joe Jogia, who was looking to reach the last sixteen for the first time in a ranking event, had reached the Grand Finals after getting a 26th place in the PTC order of Merit.
Davis also commented about the Welsh Dragon, Matthew Stevens, who is playing in his best form. The former two-time world championship finalist, Stevens, has also admitted that he has his eyes up for the title.
Stevens, who has beaten Gerard Greene by a frame score of 4-2, has set up a clash against his compatriot Dominic Dale which is going to be played on Thursday.
