Mark Gillan: Williams aiming to score points in 2011 Korean Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Williams chief operations engineer Mark Gillan has said that the team’s aim is to score points in the upcoming Korean Grand Prix at the moment, which will take place on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at the Korea International Circuit.
Gillan added that after a difficult race weekend at the Suzuka racetrack, the whole team has reacted quickly and pushed hard to avoid mistakes in the next race weekend of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Talking to reporters, Gillian commented, “For this 55 lap race Pirelli are providing the Soft and Supersoft tyres, as per Singapore. Last year we saw a large grip evolution throughout the sessions and one should expect the same this year. We want to give
both drivers maximum testing and set-up time on Friday in Korea in order to optimise the car's set-up.”
He went on to mention, “Currently the forecast is predicting a wet Friday and chances of rain throughout the weekend, so we need to be prepared to adapt our running programme to suit the conditions.”
The team’s chief operations engineer discussed the Korea International Circuit and added that this it is a medium to high-speed racetrack with a smooth circuit surface, so he believes his team can perform better on it.
On the other hand, both of the drivers, Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado are targeting to score points in Korea this weekend.
The Grove-based outfit driver Barrichello talked about his 2010 Korean race and mentioned that he really enjoyed the race at the Korea International Circuit last year. He added that they raced on the wet tyres due to damp conditions of the circuit.
The team driver is looking forward to having a similar Korean race this weekend.
His teammate Maldonado said that Korea will be another new circuit for him, so it would be a tough race. He added that at the moment he needs to understand a bit more about the circuit to get himself ready ahead of the first Friday Practice session.
He also stated that it will be an interesting race for him, as he will drive at the Korea International Circuit for the first time in his career.
Let’s see how Barrichello and Maldonado manage the race at the Korean racetrack this weekend.
