Mark Gillan believes Williams can get back into form before the end of 2012 – Formula 1 news
Williams’ chief operations engineer, Mark Gillan has said that they can get back into their good form before the end of 2012 Formula 1 season.
Pastor Maldonado of the Grove based team impressed everyone with his maiden victory in the Spanish Grand Prix after claiming his first ever pole position.
Moreover, he received a lot of admiration from his team for his remarkable performance. Additionally, he became the first ever Venezuelan driver who has scored a race win in F1. However, other than that, he has struggled in most of the races in the season
so far and has failed to attain good results for his team.
On the other hand, his teammate, Bruno Senna has also been unable to achieve competitive results in the season until now.
Even though, the British team has only scored 15 points after the Spanish GP, nevertheless, Gillan has said that they are not feeling disappointed over their poor results in the preceding races and are positively looking forward to come up stronger in the
remainder of the season.
“I really do hope that, at the end of the season, we are back at the sharp end of the grid and I can see no reason why we cannot be,” the Williams chief operations engineer told Autosport.
In addition, he said that they found their pace back during the end of the last season after facing immense difficulties in the start. Therefore, they are confidently targeting to fight back in the remaining four grands prix of the current season.
“As you saw at the end of last season, we had a lot of problems and we got on top of them,” he added. “It takes time and, with back-to-backs it is difficult to react, especially flyaway back-to-backs, but now we have a bit of a break I am confident within
the team that we can come back fighting.”
At present, Williams are standing at 8th position in the constructors’ championship. Besides, they are ahead of Toro Rosso and are behind their main rival, Force India.
It will be exciting to see how they perform in the approaching races.
