Mark Gillan says Williams are still working hard on updates – Formula 1 news
Williams’ Chief Operations Engineer Mark Gillan has said that they are still working really hard on their updates to attain competitive results in the final two races of the 2012 Formula 1 season, to secure 7th place in this year’s constructors’
championship.
Pastor Maldonado of the British squad performed impressively well in the qualifying of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and secured third grid position. Later on, although he had a convincing start in the race, but failed to secure a podium finish because of a problem
in his KERS. Nevertheless, he still secured fifth place finish in the preceding race and managed to attain good result for his team.
On the other hand, his teammate, Bruno Senna also performed reasonably well and came 8th in the last race held at Yas Marina Circuit.
Gillan has said that they are feeling extremely happy over their result in the previous race and are confidently looking forward to achieve even better in the final two rounds of the current season.
In addition, he said that they are trying their best to keep on pushing hard to make further improvement in their car so as to come up stronger in the forthcoming races and are aiming to beat their main rival, Force India in the constructors’ championship.
“On the back of a good result in Abu Dhabi the whole team is really looking forward to the last two races of the season,” said Gillan. “We will be pushing hard right to the end with further updates in order to try to secure seventh position in the constructors'
championship.”
Besides, he said that they are targeting to perform well in the United States GP and are working to create an understanding about the layout of Circuit of The Americas which is a completely new track in the calendar.
“As this is a new track, with no historic database of information to call upon, it places even more importance on one's circuit simulation tools and simulator to ensure that we're fully prepared in terms of both car set-up and proposed run programme,” he
added.
