New Zealand have recalled veteran pacer Mark Gillespie as a replacement for youngster Adam Milne for the team’s upcoming T20Is against South Africa after the latter picked up an Achilles injury ahead of the tour.

The injury was declared not that serious by NZ’s medical staff but after a thorough assessment, they decided that the player is best suited to stay at home and recuperate.  
Milne had made his T20 debut in 2010 before injury forced him out of action for the best part of the past 2 years. He however, returned to full fitness ahead of the team’s recent tour against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, where he further made his maiden ODI appearance.
His place has goes to Gillespie, who will make a return to the national fold after a gap of nine months. The 33-year-old made two appearances in the Test arena after a gap of three years, and impressed with his accuracy. He was his side’s leading wicket-taker against South Africa and was expected to be a part of the Test squad for the remaining endeavours but injury hindered his progress.
He suffered an ankle injury ahead of the team’s trip to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, and had further missed out on a national contract prior to the bouts. After returning from injury, the player is again among the wicket-takers in the Plunket Shield, where he has 13 scalps to his name in the first three games for Wellington.
Apart from his Test return earlier in the year, his inclusion in the T20 squad means that he will be making a comeback in the shortest version after a gap of more than four years, having last played for his country in 2008.
"It is disappointing for Adam to suffer an injury however it does present a great opportunity for Mark. Mark has an impressive record in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 and the conditions will suit his aggressive style of pace bowling," national selection manager Kim Littlejohn said.
New Zealand will battle South Africa in three T20Is, with the first one being played on December 21, at Durban.
