Mark Gower signs one-year extension with Swansea City
Mark Gower has signed on for an extra year at Championship side Swansea City with his new contract keeping him at the club until the end of next season.
Gower was due to be a free agent this summer and the club has moved quickly to eradicate the possibility that he could leave the club for free at the end of the current campaign.
"I couldn't be happier.
If I'm honest, during pre-season I thought my future at the club looked bleak.
We didn't have a manager and the wide positions were looking strong. I was worried about not getting in the team and I am not the type who would be happy sitting
on the bench," Gower told the club's official website.
Gower has a lot of quality and experience, which will help him to maintain his position in the Swansea first team. The odds now look good that he'll see out his career
with the club.
Quality and experience
Gower doesn't have the pace he once did down the flanks of the pitch. However, he makes up for this with accurate and precise passing. This comes in handy when he is crossing
balls into the box for strikers to attack.
Gower has played just under 100 times for Swansea and enjoyed a 20- game stint at his previous club Southend United. This gives him a great knowledge and experience of
the game. He can use this to aid younger players and come up with new attacking ideas.
Gower will be 33 years old by the time his new deal runs out. It's clear that he loves Swansea and wants to stay at the club. If he shows enough quality to get another
extension at the right time then it could be the last contract he signs in football.
"It's probably my best spell at the club and I am delighted to sign
a new deal," he added.
Betting advice
If Gower is not playing out wide then he'll be in a defensive midfield position. Don't back him to score if he's sitting in front of the back four.
