Mark Hood, Keiran Power register third consecutive victory in 2012 Senior closed doubles tournament
Men’s Doubles partners Mark Hood and Keiran Power continued their unbeatable run in Senior closed doubles tournament and overwhelmed Brydon Banks-Chris Dickson on August 7, 2012.
This epic tussle, staged at local badminton arena of Auckland in New Zealand, kept both contenders head-to-head for three gruelling sets before ending with final result of 19-21, 21-18 and 21-13.
The victorious duo came back from a horrendous start and locked the honour by prevailing in ending two segments of the battle.
Meanwhile, Brydon and Chris disappointed their supporters by frittering away their initial advantage in crucial moments.
They started their campaign in perfect manner as they survived a nerve-racking contest in the very first set of the match.
Though, they had cautious start which allowed their rivals to gain a slight edge in the beginning but then couple of productive rallies boosted their confidence and they started making swift progress.
The twosome of Brydon and Chris gathered valuable points at steady pace and managed to finish first half of the set with a respectable total of 11.
After one-minute interval, they lost focus for short span of time which helped the opposing team to counter-balance the situation but they reclaimed their dominance in the end to place a winning margin of 21-19.
However, the story was entirely different in the following game as Mark and Keiran switched the best in them to keep the contest alive.
This time they played positive badminton and established a comfortable lead by prevailing in the opening rallies.
They did not lose this momentum and mounted pressure by raising their total to an indomitable position of 11 at half time.
Later part of the game saw their challengers clinching few successive points but it was not enough to stop Mark-Keiran from registering a decisive figure of 21-18.
The decider was supposed to be a close competition but it turned into a dead contest after the mid-game break as the twosome of Brydon and Chris surrendered in a disgraceful manner.
They could not withstand the intensive attack of Mark-Keiran and knelt down after reading a concluding score of 21-13.
