Mark Hunt: Alistair Overeem has axed his career and now UFC will decide my opponent - UFC News
Mark Hunt, one of the best heavyweights in Ultimate Fighting Championship, recently shared his thoughts about the sudden twist in his life and said that he is ready to take on any man in the division but the UFC has the final say adding that being considered
as an underdog makes him strive harder to prepare for the bout further adding that Alistair Overeem has axed his own career.
Hunt, who is scheduled to take on Stefan Struve in UFC 146 in a non-title bout on May 26, 2012, recently got a boost from UFC fans who coined his name to the UFC management for the possible bout with Junior dos Santos, the current UFC heavyweight champion.
According to the details, Alistair was scheduled to collide with Santos for his heavyweight gold but the recent allegation of using performance enhancing drugs and the presence of prohibited illegal substance in his samples irked Nevada State Athletic Commission
who eventually revoked his licence.
After this incident it was obvious that Overeem will be unable to take on Santos. The search for an appropriate name was started by the UFC fanatics who later on came up with Hunt’s name.
All the mixed martial art fans and Hunt-lovers bombarded UFC President Dana White’s twitter account to take into consideration Mark Hunt as the replacement for Alistair. At the moment, no news has been heard from the management and no name has also been
tossed out to the media as to who will take on Junior on May 26, 2012.
While sharing his thoughts about the current pro-Hunt drive, Mark smiled and said that no matter what happens the final decision is to be taken by Jose Silva, the bout-maker, and the UFC management adding that he does respect the support his fans have shown
to him by backing him up in this drive.
When asked as to what he feels about taking on Santos, Mark simply said, “I match up good against anyone so I do match up against him. It’s good to be underestimated and be the underdog, it’s great, it gives me more drive and more fire. When someone tells
you can’t beat anyone or are not good enough, I get motivated.”
The cool-headed Hunt got harsh when asked as to what he thinks about allegations over Overeem and said, “When Alistair takes it or whoever takes it they just s***w themselves out. Alistair got caught, that’s his problem and now he’s dealing with it and everything
that Alistair has done is meaningless now. At the end of the day he just got caught cheating, so what’s the deal?”
Mark has been in a total 15 mixed martial art bouts and emerged victorious in eight. He has nailed five of his opponent by knockout and is a former K1 Grand Prix champion, a kick boxing promotion.
