Mark Hunt eyeing a rematch against Alistair Overeem – UFC News
Heavyweight contender of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Mark Hunt is eyeing a rematch against fellow contender Alistair Overeem. Hunt, who will be making his return to the octagon soon, is sure-footed that it is Overeem he wants to face.
While in an interview with The MMA Hour, Hunt spoke of his goals and why he wants to take on Overeem.
“If they'd like to get me a fight I'd like to get a rematch with Alistair Overeem, you know, when he comes back from his injury or from whatever, his hiatus,” said Hunt.
“You know? I'd like to have my rematch with him. I'd be willing to fight next year so it doesn't matter. If he gets a title shot, that's good on him, so,” he added.
Hunt faced Overeem at DREAM 5 in 2008, when he lost via first round submission. Now, he is hopeful that he has learnt a lot on his way and this time he will be able to defeat Overeem. Hunt is currently on a three-fight win streak. He was recently scheduled
to face Stefan Struve at UFC 146 but he had to back out due to an injury.
As of now, Hunt, who hails from New Zealand, believes he is recovering. According to him, he is at 60% fit and soon he will be 100%. He underwent a surgery for his injured posterior crucial ligament. As per the reports, he should be fit by February 2013.
On the other hand, Alistair Overeem is currently under suspension for using performance enhancing drugs. His suspension will end by the time Hunt will recover, which is why a bout between the duo is highly possible.
Hunt is eager to make his comeback against Overeem, as he believes there is a score to settle between the both. If he gets Overeem, he will have to put his heart and soul in proving his mettle against his nemesis. Another loss to Overeem could mean a career
end for Hunt.
On the other hand, since it will be Overeem’s comeback bout too, he will be putting his best efforts into the show as well. If the match happens, it will definitely be an exciting one for the fans.
