Mark J Williams eases past Mark Allen to move into the semifinal of 2011 World Snooker Championship
World Number 2, Mark Williams defeated Mark Allen by a frame score of 13-5 in the best-of-twenty-five quarter-final match of the 2011 World Snooker Championship on Wednesday, April 27. The Championship is being held at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield.
It was a devastating performance by the former two-time World Champion, Williams, and he has finally secured a place in the semifinals of the World Snooker Championship for the first time in eight years. Meanwhile, it was a nightmare for the World Number 11, Mark Allen, as he only managed to win a mere 5 frames.
The Welsh Potting Machine, Williams, ended his opening session with an impressive 5-3 lead, which he further extended to 11-5 by the end of the second session. In the third session, he was brilliant again, as he didn’t waste much time to seal his victory.
The Pistol, Allen, had his chances in both frames but failed to capitalize on them. A few chances were exchanged in the opening frame before he got a golden chance to reduce the deficit, however, the World Number 11 left a red on the jaws of the pocket. Williams however, made no mistakes and pocketed the frame with a classy break of 61.
Allen, who was now down by seven frames with eight more to play, got another chance to seal a game in the following eighteenth frame, but it seemed as if it wasn't his day. He was trailing 39-17 when he missed one of the simplest reds, giving his opponent a chance, who responded with a superb clearance of 65 to kill the match.
The 36-year-old Williams, after this strong performance, is just two victories away from his third Crucible crown.
Mark Williams will now play the winner of the match between Ronnie O’Sullivan and John Higgins, in the semifinal of the Championship.
The final score of the match between Mark J Williams and Mark Allen was; 73-66 (66) (respotted black), 73 (73)-59 (59), 7-123 (78), 125 (125)-0, 111 (78)-5, 70 (66) - 60 (60), 23 - 115 (100), 0-111 (102), 88 (80)-36, 19-50, 66-45, 86 (80)-26, 51-82, 59-11, 116 (104)-0, 113 (113)-22, 68-26 (61) and 75-30 (58).
