Mark J Williams eyeing for his Third World Title – 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship
Two-times world champion, Mark Williams, is bidding for his third Crucible Crown this year, as he has secured a place in the semi-finals of this year’s Betfred.com World Snooker Championship,
which is being held at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield.
It is for the first time in eight years since Williams has reached the semi-finals of the snooker's most prestigious event. He won his second world title in 2003, but has struggled since
then. However this year he is looking in his prime form, as he demolished the Pistol, Mark Allen, by a frame score of 13-5 to regain his number spot for the upcoming season.
“It’s been a long time, eight years. It’ll be nice,” Williams said.
“Once it goes down to one table it’s totally different . You’ve got loads of room and that’s when it becomes a real venue. I haven’t been there for so long, I’m looking forward to it.”
Williams will be facing former three-time world champion, John Higgins in the semi-final and this battle between the two is going to pull a huge crowd.
The Wizard of Wishaw, Higgins, who has cruised into the semis after knocking out the Rocket, Ronnie O’Sullivan, by a frame score of 13-10, is the favourite for the tournament, but he has
not been able to put up a good show at the Crucible somehow.
He was lucky, as O’Sullivan kept on missing easy chances and he normally never does. Higgins also admitted the fact and said: “At 8-5 down I thought I was on my way out. So it was lucky
for me he missed a few he wouldn’t normally miss.”
However Williams claimed he loves it if there is some other player dominating the coverage of the tournament, as it allows him to stay out of the spotlight.
"I love it," he said. "You carry on writing your rubbish and I'll just carry on up the outside and do my own thing."
Both big guns will start off with the opening session of their best-of-thirty-three semi-final match today at the home of snooker. Lets see if the Welsh Potting Machine manages to gain
an overnight lead over his opponent.
