Mark J. Williams leads against Jamie Cope, 7-1 – 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship

Mark Williams has ended his opening session with a 7-1 lead over Jamie Cope in the best-of-twenty-five frames match of the second round of 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship, which is being staged
at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, England.
Jamie Cope, who cruised into the last-16 after defeating the Crucible Debutant, Andrew Pagett, in the last-32, succumbed in the opening session. However the world number two, Mark Williams, on the same
note showed high standards of game to put himself in the driving seat.
It was an excellent performance by the Welshman, as he wrapped up the first four frames in a total of 43 minutes and took 32 minutes to finish the remaining after the interval break. The overall score-line
between both players was 72-47, 81-0 (51), 96-1 (72), 65-16, 49-64, 69-10, 61-37 and 87-0.
The opening frame was a cagey affair. A bout of safety play was seen among the players but in the end it was the Welshman who came on the top to have the first blood 1-0. The thirty-six-year-old, Williams,
also took the following three frames in a row to gain an impressive 4-0 lead before the mid-session interval. In the meanwhile, he also showcased classy breaks of 51 and 72 in the second and the third frame respectively.
On resuming the game, Williams was again the first one to be among the balls, but this time he lost control of his emotions, breaking down on 49 and when the chance presented itself, Cope cleared the table
to reduce the deficit to 4-1.
However former two-time world champion, Williams, showed no reeling effects, as he again wrapped up the following three frames straight to end his campaign with a 7-1lead. He racked up modest breaks of
54, 37, 38 and 44 in the meanwhile.
Mark Williams and Jamie Cope will start off with the second session today. The second session consists of eight frames. Let’s see if the Englishman makes a comeback against of the tournament favourites,
who just needs six more frames now to seal his victory for the quarter-finals of this year’s Betfred.com World Snooker Championship.
