Mark Jackson considers Dwyane Wade as the third best shooting guard of all times – NBA Update
Dwyane Wade is one of the best shooting guards in the league at the moment. He is an eight time All-Star, two times NBA champion, and a Finals MVP. Most importantly, he is a vital cog of the Big Three at the South Beach, a combination
which has made Miami Heat one of the most formidable sides in recent history.
This season though has been a roller coaster ride for the shooting guard. After a knee surgery in the off season, Wade had been struggling to perform at a level close to his best, and in that, his shooting has been the biggest
concern. Things came to head in the 20 point loss against the New York Knicks nearly 10 days back when Wade shot just 3 of 13 and couldn’t complement LeBron James, who scored a brilliant triple-double.
During that stretch, there were many people, predominantly Charles Barkley, who questioned Wade’s capability as an outside shooter and went as far as to suggest that the guard needs to work on his game.
Wade’s response was emphatic, not infront of the media (although James covered up that base), but on the court.
In the next two games, ‘Flash’ converted 20 of his 25 shots from the floor, leading Heat to two consecutive wins. He mellowed down in last night’s game against the Golden State Warriors though, scoring 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting,
five assists and five turnovers. The Warriors coach, Mark Jackson, however refused to be one of Wade’s critics and ranked him among the best three shooting guards of all time, the first two being Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant respectively;
“He’s a guy I love as a basketball fan,” Jackson said. “To me, he’s the third-best shooting guard to play the game. People think I’m crazy for saying that. And there’s no disrespect to anybody else. The guy is a winner, he competes,
he’s an underrated passer, and we all know he can score the basketball.”
With these comments, Jackson pretty much took himself out of the discussion, and also reminded everyone just how good Wade actually is - he is the same man who almost single handedly won Miami the 2006 NBA championship.
Considering his knee is not 100 percent, Wade’s cautious approach at the start of the season is also understandable. What it has done is to force him in making more outside shots, and we all know that it is not Wade’s trademark.
