Mark Johnston enjoys a good season in 2012
Mark Johnston has been enjoying a very good time in horseracing since making his debut in the nineties. The 2012 season has been quite a good one for him, especially because of his success at Newmarket and Goodwood. He will definitely be looking forward to deliver strong results in the future as well.
The veteran trainer started off his career since 1988, but had to wait for quite some time before bringing up his first major victory in the sport. In April 1994, he managed to win the Madagans 2000 Guineas Stakes Class A (Group 1) with Mister Baileys, who was a very good runner of his time.
The promising gelding, who died as a 18-year-old, had participated in a total of nine events and managed to win four of them. Johnston will never forget this gelding, as he was the first one to help him succeed at a higher level.
However, the experienced trainer would definitely be focussing on his future now and the recent results show that he is still working hard with his horses in order to make a name for himself.
Recently, Copperwood pulled off a big surprise at Newmarket, winning by a neck distance. The seven-year-old gelding has been trained by none other than Johnston, who went onto enjoy more victories at this venue with different runners.
Although there were a few ups and downs for the legendary trainer throughout his career, yet he has earned a lot of respect for his achievements. After succeeding in some important races at Newmarket, he went onto achieve bigger victories at Goodwood.
Not only Johnston, but his family was also pleased with what he had achieved this year, especially at Goodwood. His wife, Deidre, was present at the venue and was delighted with her husband’s horses doing well.
According to Deidre, “It has been a lovely week and it is smashing to win the championship again as it is a meeting we always target. All the family comes down for the week - the boys and my parents - so it is a big week as a whole.”
She went onto say, “The stable had been quiet for a while but we had two winners on the Friday and five winners on the Saturday last weekend which gave us hope that the horses were starting to run better.”
Things are shaping up nicely for Johnston and he will be hoping for another successful season next year.
