Mark Joyce, Michael Holt register wins in semi-finals – 2011 Pink Ribbon Tournament
Mark Joyce and Michael Holt have both won their semi-final matches in the 2011 Pink Ribbon Tournament, held at the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester.
Michael White 1-4 Mark Joyce
It was yet another impressive performance from the world number 42, Mark Joyce, as he registered a comfortable 4-1 win over the Welshman, Michael White.
The overall score-line between both players was 38-56, 112(80)-4, 44-84(84), 6-71, and 16-72(58).
The opening frame between both players was a scrappy affair. A bout of safety play was seen among the players but in the end, it was the 27-year-old Joyce, who appeared on top to draw the first blood 1-0. Though the 19-year-old White responded in the second
frame with a magnificent break of 80 to level the things at 1-1, he lost all of the following three frames straight.
The Englishman showed no reeling effects and restored his one-frame lead with a dazzling match-high break of 84 in the third and then pocketed the fourth and fifth with a top break of 58 to seal his victory.
Jimmy Robertson 3-4 Michael Holt
It was a cutthroat competition, as both players pushed each other to the limits but in the end, it was the defending champion, Michael Holt, who showed nerves of steel to edge past Jimmy Robertson in the deciding frame.
Meanwhile the overall score-line between both players was 39-82, 65-56(56), 88(88)-0, 59-61, 71-27, 48-72 and 23-80.
Michael Holt stormed into a 2-0 lead with a top break of 56 in the second frame before Robertson fired a mind-boggling break of 88 in the third to come within one frame at 1-2. The fourth frame was scrappy and both players dug deep into the safety battle.
Holt however managed to win it on the final black ball to leave his opponent down by two frames with three to play at 3-1.
It looked as if the match was over before Robertson bounced back into the game and clinched the fifth and sixth frames without doing anything outstanding to force the decider.
The deciding frame was once again a battle of nerves. Many chances were squandered before Holt forced a frame-winning chance from Robertson and finished the matters off.
