Mark Joyce whitewashes Michael Holt in final to win 2011 Pink Ribbon Tournament – Snooker news
The 27-year-old Mark Joyce has whitewashed the defending champion Michael Holt by a frame score of 4-0 in the best-of-seven frames final match of the 2011 Pink Ribbon Tournament, which was being held at the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester.
It was an accomplishing performance from the world number 42, Joyce, as he impressively shrugged off the likes of Jimmy White, Stephen Maguire and the reigning world champion John Higgins before whitewashing the defending champion Michael Holt in the final.
The overall score-line between Joyce and Holt was 82-1 89(64)-23, 49-14 and 81(73)-30.
Joyce took the opening frame with his flawless safety skills to draw the first blood 1-0 before he knocked in a classy break of 64 in the second to further extend his lead by 2-0. In the third frame, many chances were squandered with the balls all over the
table but yet again it was Joyce who appeared on top to leave Holt down by three frames with four to play at 3-0.
Holt, who was the first one to be among the balls in the fourth, tried pulling the frame but snooker did not come for him as he lost his nerves, breaking down on 30 and when the chance presented itself, Joyce closed the chapter with another carving break
of 73.
Joyce afterwards told the media that he was not satisfied with the way he played throughout the week but his wins over Jimmy White, Stephen Maguire and John Higgins gave him a lot of confidence.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I had played well all week and especially in the last couple of days. I came back from 3-1 down against Jimmy White in the last 32 and that was really getting out of jail and I just went on from there. Beating Stephen
Maguire in the last 16 and John Higgins in the quarter-finals then gave me a lot of confidence going into the final. I tried to play the right game and my potting and my safety game was good.”
The tournament which was played for Breast Cancer Awareness, raised a total of 10,000 pounds compared to 6,000 pounds which were raised in 2010.
