Mark Kotsay shines as Milwaukee Brewers defeat Cincinnati Reds 8-7 – MLB Update
Milwaukee Brewers’ out-fielder, Mark Kotsay had a remarkable day as he went 2-for-5 with an average of .258 and added one run with three RBIs in the Brewers’ 8-7 win against the Cincinnati Reds at Miller Park, Milwaukee on July 8.
The Reds’ offence opened their scoring account in the first inning by adding two runs and took a 2-0 lead. Joey Votto hit a solo homer (384 feet) towards left centre-field, while Brandon Phillips scored the second run of the first inning when Jay Bruce singled
off right-field. The pitchers took hold of the game and did not allow runs during the second inning.
At the top of the third inning, the Reds’ batters posted two runs to raise their lead but the Brewers also got off the mark to reduce their lead 4-1 at the bottom of the third inning. Drew Stubbs and Edgar Renteria both completed two runs jointly when Scott
Rolen saved at first base on the error of the Brewers’ third baseman, Mat Gamel.
On the other hand, Rickie Weeks hit a solo homer (409 feet) inside the park towards deep centre-field during the third inning. The batters were unable to score runs during the fourth inning but the pitchers were a little bit expensive throughout the game.
Zack Greinke threw six innings with an ERA of 5.45 and presented four runs on six hits with two earned runs. He allowed two walks and had 10 strike-outs on his 108 pitches.
During the fifth inning, the Brewers’ batters blasted three runs to level the game 4-4. Greinke scored one run when Weeks doubled off deep right-field. The second and third run at the bottom of the fifth inning was taken by Weeks and Nyjer Morgan, respectively.
Kotsay homered (387 feet) towards left-centre and gave the Brewers a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning.
The Reds went ahead 7-5 in the seventh inning when their batters exploded three quick runs. Zack Cozart and Votto both scored two runs while Bruce hit a one-run homer (380 feet) towards right-field to finish the three-run seventh inning.
In the ninth inning, the Brewers got an 8-7 lead when Corey Hart, Carlos Gomez and George Kottaras each singled and lifted the Brewers’ momentum. With this impressive win, the Brewers lead off 2-0 in a four-game series at Milwaukee.
