Mark Lawrenson: Liverpool’s flooded midfield will work in favour of Kenny Dalglish – EPL News
Legendary Liverpool defender, Mark Lawrenson, believes that the abundance of midfield players will prove beneficial for Kenny Dalglish in the upcoming 2011/12 Barclays Premier League season.
Liverpool are currently flooded with midfield players in the squad. The Reds have only signed midfielders this summer to bolster their ranks, which include http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stewart-Downing-c34221.
The former Liverpool defender sees that having plethora of options in the midfield will work in Kenny Dalglish’s favour next season as he struggled for depth in the 2010/11 season.
“Kenny won’t be worried about having so [much] to choose from in midfield. He’ll have a selection headache, which is the last of his worries. Fergie doesn’t worry about what team he’s going to pick, he just picks it. Kenny will be thinking ‘horses for courses’
and he’ll have all sorts of options that he didn’t have last season.” Lawrenson said.
Lawrenson believes that Liverpool can also generate transfer sums by selling their young talent, players like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jay-Spearing-c18106. The English midfielder was given first team opportunities under Kenny Dalglish in the last six months of the last season.
However, Spearing failed to secure a first team spot despite the absence of club captain, Steven Gerard, and Lawrenson has asserted that the Reds should think of selling such fringe players.
“You can always sell midfielders, the Jay Spearings of this world, for example, you can always make money from," Lawrenson reiterated.
However, Liverpool are likely to offload some of their midfielder in the current transfer window. Milan Jovanovic’s departure from the Anfield club is imminent as it was confirmed that the Serbian international will definitely join the Belgian club, Anderlecht.
