Mark Lowe and Andres Blanco present at optional workout session at Rangers Ballpark
The Texas Rangers held an optional workout session on Friday, October 14, at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The club was preparing for the Game 6 encounter against the Detroit Tigers in the American League Championship Series. Two players were spotted
at the session and they happened to be Mark Lowe and Andres Blanco.
Lowe was 2 – 3 in 52 games for the Rangers, this season. He pitched as a reliever and was fair in his earning runs average of 3.80. The star threw live batting practice and took fielding practice during the workout session. He had been sidelined on September
22, with left hamstring injury. The player commented on his practice in the day.
"It went well, [fielding practice] was tiring, but there were no problems," Lowe said.
The player told the press that he hopes to be in the World Series squad if the club goes through in the next possible two games.
"I should be available for the World Series," Lowe said.
He will most probably replace Koji Uehara and Yoshinori Tateyama as a regular bullpen member.
On the other hand, Blanco was also present and he was approached by the press. He has been sidelined due to lower stress fracture in his back. The shortstop replacement for Elvis Andrus told the press he may not be in the World Series roster.
The player was present in the practice as a precautionary measure for an infielder leaving the current roster due to unexpected injury. The player however talked about his situation, at the moment.
"The goal is just to get better," Blanco said. "It's not rushed, there's not much I can do right now. I can barely take ground balls, take a few swings right-handed, and that's it."
The hitter hopes his injury heals by December so he can take part in the Caribbean World Series. Nevertheless, he will be present on the sidelines for an unexpected call.
"Rest means no baseball," Blanco said. "As long as I'm here, I got to do stuff and be ready in case something happens. Something happens, then I could play, batting right-handed in the World Series."
The Rangers will be trying to go through to the World Series in Game 6 as they lead the Championship Series, 3 – 2.
