Former Hendrick Motorsports driver Mark Martin will carry no. 55 on his new ride from Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota Camry.
Martin will carry the number for 2012 and 2013 seasons in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The historic number carries a memory of founding year 1955, of Charlie Loudermilk’s Aaron’s Inc.
Chief operating officer at Aaron’s, Ken Butler said, “This is a new era for the Aaron's Dream Machine. Our new driver line-up with Mark and Michael created a good opportunity for us to make more changes, including the car number. Every one of our employees
knows the significance of the number 55 in our company.”
Butler added that he knows that company will be proud to see its name on the NASCAR ride, while its colours running through the ovals.
Martin said, “I love it, a new team, a new car and a new number. The car number means a lot to the driver. We talked about a lot of different number options, but the number 55 means a lot to Aaron's and to Michael, so I am proud to drive it.”
The stock car racing veteran Martin will participate in 25 events in each Sprint Cup season. He will be racing with car no. 55 Toyota Camry. In seven Sprint Cup events, Aaron’s Inc. will sponsor Martin’s Toyota.
He will be team up with other two MW Racing drivers Clint Bowyer and Martin Truex Jr.
Martin will initiate his 2012 Cup season with MWR from the Daytona 500 event. Waltrip will continue racing in rest of the restrictor plate races, including the hometown event at Kentucky.
The MWR is planning to complete the season with different drivers supported by other sponsors in the absence of Martin and Waltrip duo.
The owner of MWR, Michael Waltrip feels it is a big moment to carry a legendry number that holds respect for Aaron’s Inc. He stated that he realises that importance and the journey with the no. 55 on its NAPA Toyota. He is delighted to carry the brand into
the next two seasons.
He feels it to be an honour while racing with Martin, one of the first persons to enter the NASCAR hall of fame.
