Mark Mendelblatt and Brian Fatih of Star class enter Top 10 in 2012 London Olympic Games
Tremendous sailing competitions have been seen on the London waters where the sailors from around the world performed up to the mark. However, as far as the US Olympic Sailing Team is concerned, some of the classes they took part in are facing trouble because
the US sailors are on lower podium places in the overall standings of these classes at the end of the third day proceedings.
The US Sailing Team registered their sailors in RS:X Men and Women, Star, Finn, Laser and Laser Radial, Women Match Racing and 49er class. In four of the mentioned classes, the US teams are in Top ten positions while in the rest are still struggling.
The highest rank the US Sailing Team has is in the Star fleet where the pair of Mark Mendelblatt and Brian Fatih sailed tremendously during their run and made it up to the mark. They grabbed some higher finishes to place themselves on the sixth podium place,
The start of the event for the duo was a bit slow but as the proceedings moved forward, the pair claimed comparatively lower positions which shook their position a bit. However, both Mendelblatt and Fatih are hoping for a positive run ahead.
While speaking to the local media, Mendelblatt said, “Today’s wasn’t a great day. We sort of made comebacks, but the final finishing positions weren’t great. I didn’t sail a good day tactically. I felt like I was having a hard time getting into phase.”
He added, “The shifts are very quick, 15 degrees, and they don’t last more than a minute or two. Sometimes it pays to tack on them and sometimes it doesn’t, so you don’t know whether to tack on them or not.”
Overall results so far in different classes:
Women’s Match Racing, four wins, two losses, Anna Tunnicliffe (Plantation, Fla.), Molly Vandemoer (Stanford, Calif.) and Debbie Capozzi (Bayport, N.Y.)
13. Finn (Men’s One Person Dinghy Heavy), Zach Railey (Clearwater, Fla.) 10, 15, 13, 17, 2, 8
6. Star (Men’s Keelboat), Mark Mendelblatt and Brian Fatih (both Miami, Fla.) 5, 14, 5, 3, 8, 9
9. Laser Radial, Paige Railey (Clearwater, Fla.) 8, 5, 12, 17
36. Laser, Rob Crane (Darien, Conn.) 35, 42, 30, 28
7. 49er, Erik Storck (Huntington, N.Y.) and Trevor Moore (Naples, Fla./N. Pomfret, Vt.) 6, 10, 16, 1
22. Women’s RS:X Windsurfing, Farrah Hall (Annapolis, Md.) 22, 18
7. RS:X Windsurfing, Bob Willis (Chicago, Ill.) 7, 10
