Mark Munoz comes at fourth place in middleweight division – UFC News
The 33-year-old mixed martial art Filipino (MMA) fighter Mark Munoz has secured fourth place in the middleweight category. The MMA fighter who hails from Yokouska, Japan but fights out of Vallejo, California, was placed at fourth spot followed by his recent
win over Chris Leben.
Munoz fought against Leben at UFC 138 in November 2011 and defeated Leben by a technical knockout (TKO). This was the first non-title bout in UFC history which was a five round fight. With this win, Munoz extended his winning streak to four bouts followed by
his loss to Yushin Okami at UFC Live in August 2010.
He began his professional MMA career in July 2007 and soon rose to the heights as one of the best in the light heavyweight division. In March 2009 at UFC 96, Munoz made his UFC debut against Matt Hamill but could not win on debut.
He made his middleweight debut at UFC 102 against Nick Catone in August 2009. He successfully made his middleweight debut and has been in the same weight category since then.
According to reports, the rankings were confirmed by Sports Illustrated recently in which Munoz was given the fourth spot in middleweight division. The top middleweight position is secured by Vitor Belfort, Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei
Silva.
Jeff Wagenheim, the MMA writer for Sports Illustrated said, “If it were possible for you to see beyond the 1-2-3 of the division, you’d notice that there’s someone closing in on Belfort, so much so that he’s as much a No. 3 as he is a No. 4 and rising or at
least with an opportunity to do so.”
Until now, Munoz has won twelve bouts in his MMA career with two losses. Since making his UFC debut, he has contested in nine bouts inside the UFC octagon ring in which he has won seven fights and lost two. For Munoz, his middleweight career has reached to
new heights as now he would look at securing the top spot in the weight category. His win against Leben gave him the boost he needed to advance further in the rankings and come closer to Silva and Sonnen.
