West Ham United midfielder, Mark Noble, has expressed his delight over his side’s emphatic 4-1 win over Southampton at Boleyn Ground on October 20.
In spite of winning the game in a convincing manner, the 25-year-old has admitted that his side had to fight hard to secure the victory.
“You have to give credit to Southampton because they closed us down and made it very difficult for us. We defended very well and at 0-0 we were still massively in the game and knew we had a chance to go on and win it which thankfully we did”, Noble was quoted
as saying to the media.
The Hammers enjoyed majority of ball possession in the opening 45 minutes, but they failed to break the deadlock, as the visiting side gave away almost nothing away during the first-half.
However, the hosts were in no mood of dropping even a single point, and resumed proceedings after the break impressively, and grabbed the lead within a minute of play through Noble.
Kevin Nolan doubled his side’s advantage only two minutes later. The Saints managed to stage a better show after conceding two goals in quick succession, and pulled one back in the 63rd minute through Adam Lallana.
However, the Hammers netted two more through Noble and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Modibo-Maiga-c26167 in the remaining action of the game to secure an emphatic victory, and the English midfielder was pleased with his side’s performance.
“To get four against Southampton was fantastic. It was a great game for the lads”, Noble added.
Andy Carroll, who is plying his trade at Boleyn Ground on a season-long deal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, helped his side in winning several free-kicks near the penalty area, and Noble defended his teammate by calling him a clever player.
“Players are clever nowadays. You kind of draw fouls and it’s up to the referee whether he sees it as a foul or as a player being soft”, Noble concluded.
West Ham are currently sitting seventh on the league table.
