Mark Perry names British Swimming squad for the European Junior Championships – Swimming News
Swimming coach to the Junior Great Britain swimming team, Mark Perry, has chosen a squad of 27 swimmers to compete at the 2011 European Junior Swimming Championships, to be held in Serbia.
The Junior British Swimming Team has been training under the guidance of their new coach, Mark Perry, to prepare for their first major international meet. Perry, who was coaching the British Open Water Swimming, is now also rendering his services to the
Junior squad for the upcoming European Championships.
While explaining the importance of these championships, Perry said, “It is highly regarded within the international swimming community and we are judged by performances at this event. Our priority aim is to facilitate the best possible development of talented
young athletes while providing strong racing opportunities to give the perfect grounding for our next generation of elite athletes.”
The British coach expressed his desire of proving their dominance at the upcoming championships, saying that the British swimming world has a strong swimming culture and he will try his best to carry on the tradition.
Perry said that the numbers of players are lesser than the British Junior teams in the past, but he emphasised that their team is over-flowing with competent swimmers.
Mark uttered that the selected team will attend a training camp, where the panel of Britain coaches will deliver their services to enhance the performances of their junior national swimmers.
He proclaimed that most of these training camps will be organised at different British Aquatics Centres, where these young swimmers will have the opportunity to learn from the ideas and guidelines of swimming coaches.
Perry added, “The camps will be based on a race-train-race philosophy. We'll race on shore and analyse performances to identify areas for improvement.”
Furthermore, Perry said that the major emphasis will be on improving the starts, turns and finishes of their swimmers, as this is the major requirement of competitive swimming. The new coach said that British Swimming is considering to acquire external resources
and that necessary steps will also be taken to ensure podium finishes of their young swimmers.
