While he has been a county run-machine, he failed to translate that form when appearing for England. Still, he managed to play in over 50 Tests but his average of 27.32 hardly did justice to his talent. With Surrey having a tough season, following the death of Tom Maynard, it was expected that the veteran would stay on at least until the end of the current campaign, and while he said he could have carried on, the club were clear in their stance.
"I had a tough start to this season but I continued to try and remain fit and wanted to play. However, last week I was informed I was not in Surrey's selection plans, therefore I decided it was time to step aside. So much has happened to the club this season I really wanted to try and contribute," Ramprakash said.
"I would like to express how lucky I feel to have had a long and enjoyable career in a game that I love passionately. It's been an honour and a privilege to represent Middlesex, Surrey and England," he added.
