Mark Ramprakash backs http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RS-Bopara-c2373 - Cricket News Update
Following his uneventful comeback in the team, Former England Test player Mark Ramprakash has asked the English management to support and back Ravi Bopara in his bid to re-launch his Test career.
Bopara made his return at the Oval after a year lay-off, when he appeared in the fourth Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at the same venue, but the batsman had an inauspicious return into the English side, dismissed on a duck during the second day’s play of the first
Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, raising sudden speculations over his potential as a Test player.
English county legend, Ramprakash, who recently resigned from county cricket, thinks the 27-year-old did not get the support he deserved early in his career, and was kept moving up and down the order amidst injuries and an uncertain place in the English
squad.
Seeing a bit of himself in Bopara, the 42-year-old said the Londoner had a promising start to his international career, but like him, he too wasn’t handled well in his formative years.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 legend amassed a mammoth 35659 (53.14) First-Class runs with an astonishing 114 centuries but despite the talent, he ended up with a dismal Test record, scoring 2350 runs (27.32) in 52 Tests.
"He exploded on to the scene with three hundreds and then he was put in at No 3 against Australia in a big five-Test series. I felt that more senior players should have been pushed up the order,” he said
“Bopara was still developing as a Test player and should still have been at five or six. These decisions are important and they shape players’ careers. I don’t think he has had the same backing as other players,” Ramprakash said.
English team has renewed concerns due to the soft spot left in their middle-order. With an out of form http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
The player however, failed to deal with a rampant http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DW-Steyn-c1409 and was sent back after a six-ball duck.
However, Ramprakash believes that it’s too early to right Bopara off as he has the talent to become a mainstay in all formats for England.
“He’s a very important player for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 in all formats and the quicker England can integrate him into the side the better, but that means backing him,” he concluded.
