Mark Ramprakash impressed by current England structure – Cricket News Update
As he bids farewell to the game, former English batsman Mark Ramprakash was a satisfied man despite failing to reproduce his county form in England colours. He however, was impressed by the current national team’s structure, claiming that a lot has changed
since the 1990s.
The 42-year-old had been an ever present entity since making his domestic debut in 1987 at the age of 17. He was destined to achieve success as after bursting onto the scene playing for Middlesex. Having captained the England U-19s, a bright international
career beckoned as the player made his debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in 1991.
However, his potential remained unfulfilled as the Poms themselves were struggling to find their feat in the 1990s, constantly falling behind the other top nations and notably http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. For Ramprakash, it had always been a difficult step up. Scoring runs
galore for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851, he hardly hit purple patch with the national side before the selectors ultimately lost patience.
He played his last game in 2002, while his ODI career had ended a year earlier. His highlights in the international arena were few and far, with the notable achievement coming against the Aussies where he scored a stylist 133 – his only century in England.
However, his retirement coincided with a change in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 structure, which according to him has been a blessing for the current group, which has arguably taken the English game to a whole new level. Having been crowned the no.1 ranked Test team, things are
pretty much going smoothly in the shorter formats.
Reflecting on his time, the veteran said he has little regrets but was eager to praise the current management for doing their best to help the team achieve success.
"You do the best you can at that time and I know I couldn't have trained any harder. I tried to listen to the right people and I did the best I could at that time. And if you know that you don't look back with any regrets," Ramprakash asserted.
"The England structure has developed so much,” he said, before adding, “"You can see the results. There is such togetherness and a team feel to England now, debutants feel well looked after and it's a great credit to the management and backroom staff that
they integrate players in a smooth way."
