Mark Ramprakash injures knee in charity game
Surrey batsman Mark Ramprakash could be ruled out of playing for his club for a long period after he hurt his left knee while playing soccer. Ramprakash may need to undergo a surgery to overcome the issue.
This could keep Ramprakash out of the county side at the start of the 2011 season which will hurt the side’s chances given that they had had a poor previous season. Ramprakash had himself had some good form
going and made almost 1600 runs at an average of more than 60.
Speaking to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 TV, Ramprakash said, "The injury is quite serious but I've been to see a specialist and it was pretty clear cut that I need an operation. Hopefully that will go well and I'm going to be
on crutches for around seven to ten days - after that it's following the long road to recovery.”
Ramprakash said that the injury occurred while playing football in a charity game after being involved in a freak accident with another player. In doing so, he is said to have twisted his knee and said that
there was damage to the medial ligament, a tear in the cartilage and damage to the anterior cruciate ligament.
Ramprakash also hoped that there will be no complications involved. If that were to be the case, he added, “Then it's possible that even around the ten day mark the physios will decide they can stick me on
an exercise bike with no resistance and get the leg turning round. Of course, I expect there will be a lot of work in the swimming pool as well.”
Ramprakash played in 52 Test matches for England but failed to live up to his first class run-scoring spree. He ended with an average of 27 in Tests, having scored 2350 runs. However, he has almost 35,000
runs in first class cricket.
