Mark Renshaw hopeful to find his winning ways during the coming stages of the Tour de France
Mark Renshaw’s Tour de France has really not started yet after his struggling performance during the opening prologue and the first two stages of the race.
He finished ninth during the stage 2 and currently holds the 122nd overall position after the stage 2 classifications.
"I didn't even get a chance to sprint," he told Cyclingnews after the stage 2.
"I couldn't get out and I was boxed in on the barrier and didn't get to even sprint. It's disappointing".
The 29-year-old opened his 2012 winning account with a stage 4 victory at the Tour of Turkey and also finished third during the stage 13 of the Giro d’Italia.
Team Rabobank is having a dry season and has only managed to secure the 13th overall position after the UCI World Tour team’s rankings with a total number of 323 UCI points.
Bauke Mollema (132 points), Robert Gesink (60 points), Matti Breschel (60 points), Lars Boom (40 points) and Samuel Sanchez (29 points) made the major contributions.
Renshaw is optimistic to improve his performance during the coming stages of the Tour de France.
"My legs got better throughout the stage but it's disappointing not to have a better sprint. I had Maarten Tjallingii leading me out and he did a great job actually,” he cited.
“Now that I know how strong he is I can maybe save him for a bit longer".
"Without a HTC style lead out the speed isn't so high and there was a lot of jostling and it just means it's harder to judge the sprint".
Mark also holds the eighth overall position after the stage 2 points classifications with Peter Sagan, Mark Cavendish and Fabian Cancellara at the top three positions respectively.
