Mark Reynolds, Nolan Reimold shine as Baltimore Orioles defeat Los Angeles Angels 8-3 – MLB Update
Mark Reynolds and Nolan Reimold led the Baltimore Orioles to a destructive 8-3 win over the wild-card potential Los Angeles Angels in the opening outing of the three-game series at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Friday, September 16 and took their winning
streak to three.
First baseman Mark Reynolds launched a 1-1 pitch out of the park in the beginning of the bottom of the fifth inning. 28-year-old right-hand batter hit his 33rd homer of the season and took his club to a strong 3-0 lead.
Nolan Reimold, playing as switch fielder, entered for his second at-bat having Chris Davis at third and Mark Reynolds at second base in the bottom of the sixth inning. 27-year-old hurler launched a ballistic homer for two runs just a pitch after Chris Davis
scored on a wild pitch by Tyler Chatwood, who has relieved starter Dan Haren a pitch earlier. This hit set the Orioles to a 8-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth.
Until now, Orioles’ starter Tommy Hunter had held the Los Angeles Angels’ strong batting squad to no-score. Tommy threw another shut-out inning and marked his fourth win. His five strike-outs, including hard-hitter Mark Trumbo, Henley Kendrick, Vernon Wells
and veteran Bobby Abreu, were the major contribution for the Orioles. However, the right-hand ball thrower allowed seven hits and two walks but it did not put him in trouble.
"We'd like to finish strong no matter who it is out there," Hunter said. "It's not one of those things where we're going to play harder against one of these teams or that team. This team is young. We want to go out there and play, no matter who it is."
His back-up was always ready as second baseman Robert Andino led the game off with his line drive RBI single in the bottom of the third to create some relief for Tommy. Then J.J. Hardy added an RBI in the third and the fifth.
Orioles’ relief pitcher Willie Eyre tossed a shut-out inning but closer Kevin Gregg allowed a solo home-run to the Angels’ catcher Hank Conger in the top of the ninth inning. He permitted another run on an RBI but managed to complete his outing without further
runs.
Orioles do not have a chance to make it through to the post-season, but their commitment to closing the regular season strong is evident from their rebound performance.
