Mark Reynolds shines as Baltimore Orioles crush New York Yankees 8-3 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles outclassed the New York Yankees 8-3 at Yankee Stadium in New York on Sunday, September 2 in the finale of their three match series.
After the Yankees took an early 2-0 lead, Mark Reynolds homered to left centre in the fifth inning to bring the Orioles back into the contest. Matt Wieters singled to centre and Reynolds connected for his second home-run in the sixth inning to help Baltimore
comeback from behind for a 5-3 lead.
Robert Andino also made his presence felt with a walk in the eighth and Nick Markakis earned an RBI single to right to put the Orioles in a commanding 8-3 position.
"Hopefully it's a sign we're becoming a little better because they've been the measuring stick for a long time," Showalter said.
Starting pitcher Chris Tillman put up another decent performance as he gave up two runs and two hits in three solid innings. Relief pitcher Randy Wolf grabbed the win after he allowed a run in three plus effective innings, laying the foundations of an impressive
Orioles’ victory.
For the Yankees, Chris Dickerson hit a two run home-run in the second inning and Nick Swisher singled to left in the fifth inning.
"You look at a lot of young guys in here -- they don't even know they're in the middle of a playoff race probably," Reynolds said. "Everyone in here's having fun, going out and playing hard."
"I was kind of coming down on myself hard there for coming out of the game," Tillman said. "But Randy picked me up huge -- and what a series Mark had. It was fun to watch."
Orioles will be extremely happy with the result of the game. An impressive 2-1 series victory is more than they could have hoped for before entering the series. With the win, Baltimore also closed down the gap between themselves and the Yankees to just two
games at the top of American League East Division standings table.
If the Orioles can continue their incredible winning run over the next couple of weeks, surely they will have their best chance of clinching the AL East Division title.
