Mark Reynolds shines as Baltimore Orioles defeat Atlanta Braves 5-4 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles’ third baseman, Mark Reynolds had a remarkable day with the bat as he hit three RBIs and two-run homer in the Orioles’ 5-4 victory against the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field, Atlanta on July 3.
During the first two innings of the game, the pitchers maintained their line by tossing some exemplary pitches. At the top of the first, J.J. Hardy reached to short-stop position on an infield single but Adam Jones and Derrek Lee both struck-out swinging
without providing any run.
On the other side, the Braves’ batters missed some scoring runs at the bottom of the second inning when Dan Uggla was grounded out towards third base and Julio Lugo lined out to second base. The Orioles scored two runs in the third inning to get a 2-0 lead.
Zach Britton struck a solo homer (403 feet) towards right-field and Hardy added the second run for the Orioles when Reynolds hit a sacrifice fly off centre-field.
The batters were again unable to score run in the fourth inning. Britton permitted three runs on six hits including three earned runs in his five inning pitches. He struck-out four batters and allowed three walks on 92 pitches. Reynolds commented on Britton
and said, “It kind of ticks you off as a position player to watch a pitcher get hits like it's nothing.”
In the fifth inning, Britton scored one run to raise the Orioles’ lead 3-0 when Nick Markakis doubled towards deep right-field. The Braves’ batters broke their silence during the sixth inning and blasted four runs to go-ahead 4-3. Chipper Jones scored the
first run when Freddie Freeman singled off centre-field.
Brian McCann added a single run when Lugo was grounded out to short-stop position. Third and fourth run in the sixth inning was taken by Nate McLouth and Freeman when Eric Hinske drove a single-run shot towards centre-field.
The Orioles’ batters snatched a lead 5-4 in the seventh inning when Reynolds struck a two-run homer (433 feet) to left-field and Markakis contributed the final run of the game. In the eighth and ninth inning, the pitchers tossed the fastballs to limit the
shots of the batters.
Despite this tremendous win, the Orioles lost the three-game series 2-1 at Atlanta.
