Mark Reynolds sparks as Baltimore Orioles defeat New York Yankees 5-4 in third outing – MLB Update
Mark Reynolds broke down the silence and the New York Yankees four-game winning streak with his game winning single in the eleventh inning to take a 5-4 win for Baltimore Orioles in the third outing of the three-game series at Yankee Stadium in New York
on Wednesday, September 7.
The game was tied at 4-all in the bottom of the fourth inning and stadium packed with the Yankees’ fans were waiting to raise an applause but a stunning performance from both pitching depths forced them to their seats. However, in the top of the eleventh
inning, Orioles’ centre-fielder Matt Angle and Nick Markakis enlighten some hope with their singles. With Angle at second and Nick at first, Reynolds came in and singled to left-centre for a tie-breaking game-winning RBI single.
"It's been a struggle for us all year. Any win down the stretch is kind of icing on the cake for us," Reynolds said. "We're going to try to go out and win every game down the stretch and make it tough on some of these teams trying to get to the playoffs."
Nick Markakis was also the part of the first run scored against Allan Jones Burnett in the first inning. Kyle Hudson scored an RBI single in the second and Nolan Reimold launched a solo home-run in the third for the Orioles.
Yankees’ Hector Noesi received his first loss of the season at a crucial time but his manager Joe Girardi did not show any sign of worry.
"We don't have to worry about making up this game, and that's a good thing," New York manager Joe Girardi said. "But physically, it's been a grind. There's no doubt about it."
Alex Rodriguez added an RBI double in the first inning and then rookie batter Jesus Montero impressed again with his game tier RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning. It was his fifth RBI of the season and his career with a .385 batting average.
Burnett allowed four runs on seven hits and struck-out seven batters over six innings. Aaron Laffey pitched a hitless third of an inning, as Luis Ayala worked a hitless two thirds of an inning while David Robertson and Rafael Soriano each threw hitless innings.
Orioles’ starter Zach Britton permitted four runs on five hits over five innings. Brad Bergesen, Zach Phillips, Willie Eyre, Kevin Gregg, Clay Rapada and Pedro Strop each remained scoreless over their short spells. Pedro gained his first win with a single-hitter
one inning.
