Mark Reynolds’ triple RBIs help Baltimore Orioles nip Minnesota Twins 6-1 - MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles’ first baseman, Mark Reynolds had a notable day with the bat as he went 1-for-5 with an average of .220 and hit three RBIs including one homer in the Orioles’ 6-1 win against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field, Minnesota on August 25.
In the first inning, the two teams remained score-less as the pitchers threw beautifully. J.J. Hardy walked during first inning but at centre-field, Vladimir Guerrero flied out, Nick Markakis fouled out and Robert Andino grounded out without contributing
any run. At the bottom of first inning, Justin Morneau hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to second base but Ben Revere got out to second base as Trevor Plouffe popped out.
Orioles got a 1-0 lead during second inning when Andino walked and Nolan Reimold scored his first run. Ryan Adams moved to third base and Craig Tatum occupied second base to end the inning. On the other side, Twins tied the game 1-1 during third inning when
Morneau bunted a double-run drive to deep centre-field and Plouffe scored one run.
In the fourth and fifth inning, the pitchers raised their team’s potential to some high extent by throwing the ball perfectly. Orioles’ starter, Jo-Jo Reyes was a little bit shaky with the ball as he permitted one run, five hits, four walks and one earned
run with an ERA of 5.26. In his six pitched innings, Reyes struck-out three batters.
Reynolds said, “I've had a rough stretch here the past week or two. You know, you get a couple knocks here and there and kind of get some confidence going up a little bit. Hopefully it keeps snowballing here for me and I finish up the season strong.”
Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter said, “Sooner or later, the baseball gods kind of let you up for air. We caught the Twins down.”
Tatum doubled to deep left-centre during sixth inning while Reimold and Adams both scored two consecutive runs to give the Orioles a 3-1 lead. In the seventh inning, Orioles advanced their lead to 6-1 when Reynolds struck a three-run homer (407 feet) towards
left-centre while Hardy and Guerrero both singled to complete a three-run campaign for the Orioles.
After defeating the Twins with a combined effort, Orioles swept them 4-0 in the four-game series played at Target Field.
