Mark Sanchez looking to keep streak alive
In his rookie season as Jets quarterback, Mark Sanchez threw 20 interceptions compared with only 12 touchdowns. He seems to have turned it around this season, throwing eight touchdowns in five games, and has yet to throw a pick. In all actuality, Sanchez
is currently the only quarterback in the NFL to have thrown over 100 passes and not been intercepted.
There have been a few near misses along the way. It looked like the streak was all over last Monday night when Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield got his hands on one of Sanchez's passes, but couldn't quite haul it in. There have also been two interceptions
(before the streak was really ever considered a streak) that have been overturned by video review.
"It's one of those things that you can't let up, and I feel like when I was late on a couple last week, I lucked out," Sanchez said. "We joke about it in the quarterbacks room-'You must be living right to luck out like that.'"
Although Sanchez admits to having a little bit of luck on his side, Jets coach Rex Ryan is suggesting that Sanchez's work ethic and preparation might have something to do with it as well.
"I think it's definitely his development, the way he studied, the time he put in [during] the offseason," he said. "It's starting to pay dividends right now for us. But luck, if that's thrown in there, that's fine."
Sanchez has made a real turn around and a lot of it comes down to maturity and having a full year of experience under his belt.
"It's been a point of emphasis all off-season, and I'm really glad that things have gone well so far," Sanchez said. "A lot of it is the decision-making. A lot of it is the accuracy, and I lost a little accuracy last week. It's something that I'm constantly
working at, and hopefully this week is not the week to start."
Sanchez will look to keep the streak alive as the Jets travel to Denver to take on the Broncos this Sunday, October 17.
