Mark Schwarzer may leave in January

During the transfer window of 2010 summers, one of the biggest and longest transfer sagas apart from the Cesc Fabregas link to Barcelona was Mark Schwarzer’s move to Arsenal. Arsene Wenger had long been plagued by lack of a quality
goalkeeper and was keen on bringing the Aussie goalkeeper to the Emirates. However the talks did not materialise and Schwarzer remained at Craven Cottage as the transfer window closed.
The former Middlesbrough man though has not ruled out a move away from Craven Cottage come January. Fulham manager Mark Hughes who had also just taken over in the summer after the departure of Roy Hodgson made it clear that keeping
hold of Schwarzer was on top of his agenda and he did his best to keep his man. In the end his efforts were rewarded but for how long is now the question.
The current deal for Schwarzer at Fulham will end at the end of this season, and the management has been keen on signing an extension.
Schwarzer had indicated that he still has hopes of playing in the Champions’ League and will consider his options when the next transfer window comes.
"A lot can happen between now and January. What will be will be," said Schwarzer
"If there's an opportunity in January, then we'll explore it."
The Aussie said that being linked with a club like Arsenal is flattering, but he will not make a decision hastily and will think long and hard before making his choice. He added that he is at the stage of his career where every
choice he makes is very crucial, as there is no telling which will be his last season.
Mark Schwarzer believes that if a player is speculated for a move constantly it can affect his performance. He said that currently all that he is thinking about is performing for Fulham, he added that if a player is only worried
about his future then his present can get heavily affected. The 38 year old went on to say that Fulham is a club that has progressed a lot since he joined, and he is pleased that he has been part of something good at Craven Cottage. Mark said that making it
to the final of Europa League was a dream run and he enjoyed every bit of it. He added that playing in Europa league gave him a taste of competing with some of the best clubs in Europe. He added that now he wants to play at the next level that is the Champions’
League, Schwarzer said that before he hangs his boots he would like to have the experience of playing against the best in the business, and to do that he would have to make a move. He reiterated that still is in the future and for now he is a Fulham player
and working hard for the team.
Schwarzer continued: "That was very flattering [the interest from Arsenal], but sometimes you've just got to grin and bear it and just get on with normal life again as much as possible," he said.
Arsenal’s goalkeeping woes have been clear to one and all since last season. It looked as if there was competition of who can come up with the worse howler. Lukasz Fabianski and Manuel Almunia made multiple errors last season,
and this season in a league match Almunia made 2 big errors because of which Arsenal ended up losing 3-2. So there is a massive need for Arsene Wenger to get his hands of Mark Schwarzer and the deal is likely to be sealed in January.
