Mark Schwarzer pens new deal, Emmanuel Adebayor not happy at Manchester City
Fulham FC’s goalkeeper has ended speculation about his move to any other English club by signing a new deal with his current side. The Australian has agreed to stay at the west London club until at least 2012.
Schwarzer was previously linked with Arsenal FC and the north London club had placed an official bid worth £2 million in the summer.
Fulham turned down the offer form Arsenal in May, but the Gunners were adamant to sign the 38-year-old in the January transfer window.
It was believed that manager Arsene Wenger was keen on landing the experienced shot-stopper as a replacement for keeper Lukasz Fabianski.
Fulham manager, Mark Hughes had previously admitted that Arsenal were interested in his No.1 and said that rumours about his departure were unsettling the goalkeeper.
However, Hughes confirmed that the Australian had decided to extend his stay at Craven Cottage, on Thursday.
While speaking to the press, the manager said, “He was obviously very flattered by the interest. We're delighted that he's decided to stay here and we can move forward now. It's something we've wanted to do for quite some time.
I think Mark was keeping his options open and he had every right to do that. He's very happy to sign.”
He added, “I'm delighted to have finally signed a contract extension with Fulham after a great deal of speculation surrounding my future in recent months. The club, manager and team have all highlighted their desire to see me stay
at the Cottage and after successful negotiations I can confirm that my future is with Fulham."
Schwarzer played for Middlesbrough FC for 11 years (1997-2008), before joining The Cottagers in 2008. He has made 12 appearances for Fulham in the English Premier League this season while keeping a total of 6 clean sheets.
Meanwhile, Manchester City’s Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor is looking for a move to Tottenham Hotspur in January. The striker has not been able to impress manager Roberto Mancini and is eying a loan-transfer to the London
outfit.
If the deal goes through, Adebayor will be rejoining his former Arsenal teammate William Gallas, who is enjoying his time while playing for Spurs.
Emmanuel’s interest on moving away from the City of Manchester Stadium is associated with the sour working relationship with his Italian manager.
