Mark Schwarzer refuses to rule out move
Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has refused to rule out a move away from the club in January.
Schwarzer was linked for large parts of the summer with a possible move to Arsenal. He has not ruled this out from happening in a few months time and says anything is possible.
"A lot can happen between now and January. What will be will be.
If there's an opportunity in January, then we'll explore it.
This is the only time in my career I have ever tried to force an issue," said the Australian.
Schwarzer is a quality goalkeeper and a move to a top club would elevate his game. However, Arsenal may be put off from making another bid because they've now been forced
to play half of the season with Manuel Almunia as number one.
A good move
A move to a bigger club like Arsenal would be great for Schwarzer's game. He has a lot of experience playing in his position and could gain a lot more at a new club and
from playing under a new manager.
Schwarzer is very effective at organising a defence from goal. The top clubs in England and Europe all look for a goalkeeper that can do this effectively. This is because
a disciplined defence will concede fewer goals.
The problem for 37-year-old Schwarzer is that time is running out. Arsenal made it clear they wanted the goalkeeper over the summer. However, they were forced to stick
with Almunia in goal and the Spaniard has stated his desire to remain the number one.
"It was probably one of my hardest periods ever.
I don't have time on my side. If you were a 30-year-old you would walk away and say 'fair enough, I understand'.
That was very flattering [the interest from Arsenal], but sometimes you've just got to grin and bear it and just get on with normal life again as much as possible,"
he added.
