Mark Selby aims to grab titles in upcoming events of 2011-12 snooker season: World Snooker update
Englishman Mark Selby did not have a great last season as he faced several final-stage exits, however, he is looking forward to grab major titles in the 2011-12 season.
The new snooker season will commence with the start of the Players Tour Championship (PTC) this month. Selby’s performance in last season’s PTCs was not up to the mark as he could win only one PTC
event and crashed out of the advanced stages in the rest.
The Leicester potter said, "Last season I played over 100 matches, and looking at the calendar, I could play even more this time. Depending on how I do in the main ranking events, I may miss the odd
PTC event just to make sure I am not burned out for the big events."
Two new snooker events will be featured this season, the first ever major ranking event of Australian Goldfields Open tournament and the PTT-EGAT World Cup Snooker at the World Trade Centre in Bangkok,
Thailand. The Jester from Leicester, Selby is also eyeing to perform well in these two mega events too.
While speaking to the media, the 27-year-old said, "I've never been to Australia before and I'm not sure how much of it I'll get to see, as I'll be there to work and hopefully do well in the tournament.
I'm just pleased that we are moving the game into new territories.”
He added, "Most of the big sports have a World Cup event and it's great for snooker to have different tournaments with different formats. I've played in tournaments in Thailand before and I've no
doubt this one will create a really good atmosphere.”
The Englishman just came back from Mexico this month where he married his girlfriend, Vikki Layton, on May 24 in Cancun. Selby could have given Vikki the greatest gift had he won the World Snooker
Championship 2011 and it would have been an icing on the cake but unfortunately the former Welsh Open champion lost to the Chinese, Ding Junhui, in the quarter-final by 13-10.
