Mark Selby appreciates Stuart Bingham for his good play in quarters: 2012 Wuxi Classic
Despite performing up to the mark in the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament and making his way into the quarter-final stage, the Wuxi Classic defending champion and the World Number one Mark Selby was unable to save himself from crashing out of the event.
He lost at the hands of 2011 Australian Goldfields Open winner, compatriot Stuart Bingham. Selby appreciated his opponent for his ideal game-play and stated that he lost the match due to his own bad game.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Selby said, “I think overall I didn't deserve to win, I didn't play well at all. I didn't score well enough and my safety was poor. I think overall Stuart deserved to win, he was the better player throughout
the match.”
The Jester from Leicester added, “The neck seems to be ok at the moment I seem to be getting down with no discomfort. It was fine today, obviously performance-wise some days you play well and some days you don't and unfortunately for me today was the day
that I didn't.”
Bingham played sensibly from the beginning of the quarter-final clash at the Wuxi Sports Center arena in Wuxi, China. The audience present had another thrilling game as both potters did not make any silly mistakes and steadily continued their impressive
game. In both sessions of the match, Bingham and Selby were on their toes to cash any opportunity they got.
Regardless of his hard work to hit the lead, Selby failed to push Bingham down because he was dominating the game from the very initial frame. Not letting Selby weaken him, Bingham clinched the match lead by 3-1 after potting cracking knocks of 63 and 110.
Selby was under a lot of pressure but he maintained his balance and came back into the game from 4-2 down with sensational breaks of 64 and 92 to pull level at 4-4. The final frame was an all Bingham-Show as he swept the table in no time to overpower his
opponent by 5-4 and place himself in the semi-final stage. Bingham will be looking to put in another good performance as he tries to advance further in the tournament.
