Mark Selby crashes out of 2012 Australian Goldfields Open after losing to Jamie Burnett
After producing tremendous snooker shots at the Bendigo Stadium arena in Victoria, Scotland’s Jamie Burnett trashed the World Number one from England, Mark Selby by the score line of 5-3 in the first round of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open. The Englishman
did not have any chance to capitalise during the game when the Scot took control of the proceedings.
The clash started with some tremendous performance from the Scottish potter as he cruised into the lead in no time and dominated the first session of the match with classy snooker display. At the end of the session, Burnett was leading over Selby by the
score line of 3-1. At this point, the English cueman was pushed to the edge where it seemed that the next two frames will be final for Selby and he will be packing back home.
However, Selby bounced back into the game in the second session and claimed two frame wins to make it 4-3. Burnett has everything under his palm in the eighth frame as he fired a superb break of 62 points to claim the frame and the match victory as well.
England’s Mark Selby retained his world top spot after putting up consistent performance in the past snooker season. The Englishman claimed a couple of noticeable titles in the last season to stay on the leading podium place of the World Snooker Rankings.
Selby entered the new snooker season with utmost confidence and hope for a positive start of the new season.
He started his new season campaign with the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event at the Wuxi Sports Center arena at Wuxi but was not able to perform according to the standards and slipped down in the initial stages of the event. Losing in the early stages of
the tournament was indeed a disappointing situation for the Englishman but he forgot about all that and moved forward.
The 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker event was yet another opportunity for the Jester from Leicester to get back in business and get a fresh start once again to his new season campaign. However, the Scotsman Burnett put an end to his hopes of grabbing
a strong position in the event as well as the season. Selby will now be looking forward to the upcoming snooker tournaments to make an appearance once again.
