Mark Selby disappointed after losing to Mark Allen in semi-final of 2012 World Open
World Number one, England’s Mark Selby had everything under control in the first two sessions of the semi-final clash of 2012 World Open snooker tournament when he was leading Mark Allen 5-2 at the Haikou Stadium arena in the Hainan Island but unfortunately
he tumbled down in Session 3 after Allen bounced back into the game to beat him 6-5.
The Leicester potter is now regretting his defeat at the hands of someone who he pushed three frames down in the very beginning of the match. Selby must be imagining himself in the final encounter of the 2012 World Open when he was at the brink to clinch
the semi-final win but all his hopes went in vain at the time Allen got back into the game with his furious game play to sweep the table in no time.
Selby played some massive snooker shots to unnerve his opponent before the interval and clinched the lead of 5-2. Allen was under immense pressure but despite the pressure and the tricky conditions inside the arena, he focused on his game and fired some
outstanding breaks of 79, 71 and 112 in the final session to trump Selby by 6-5.
Selby was aiming to win the tournament but when he failed to fulfil his desire and lost to the Antrim potter, he felt disappointed.
While speaking to the World Snooker after his match, Selby said, “It's disappointing to lose but I think I played a good game and didn't really do much wrong but to be fair to Mark he played very well from 5-2 and I don't think I had a single chance to win
the match.”
The 28-year-old added, “If he plays like that tomorrow he's got every chance of winning the tournament but I'm amazed he hasn't won a tournament by now as he's such a great player.”
Mark the Shark will now move to Bailey Allen Hall in Galway, Ireland to take part in the Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Final. Selby will test his luck at the Irish arena against some of the top potters in the snooker world. He has already won the
fourth PTC event after beating compatriot Mark Davis 4-0.
